Import multiple Members via CSV

You may wish to import a list of members from another source, such as from CRM or mailing list software. Vimsy supports this via the Import Members function within the Member settings on your channel.

You can import Members directly to your channel, or your can import members to a group. To import members to a group, create your group then select 'Import Members' from the options menu. If you wish to import the same members to multiple groups, repeat this step for each group.

Formatting your CSV

Your CSV needs to contain the following columns:

  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Email Address
  • Password (optional - must be at least 6 characters in length)

If no password is specified the user will be sent an activation email. This requires the user to click a link via email to set their password for logging in.

Please note that Vimsy is not compatible with some CSV formats.

Additional Information

If your CSV contains an email address that is already registered to a Vimsy account, the existing user will simply be added to your channel or to the group you have specified. Their name and password will not be modified.

Please be aware that large CSV files with many rows will take longer to import.

Setting a user's password on their behalf

It is important to note that set passwords must be at least 6 characters in length or else Vimsy will fail to import the member.

It is also important to consider whether it is the best option to set a user's password on their behalf. Many people prefer to set a password of their own so that they can remember it in the future. (Most people will have one or several passwords that they use across all sites.) You may find that your users will not log in or engage with your channel if they do not have a password that they can remember.

As a channel owner or editor you cannot reset a user's password for them. You can send them a Password Reset email from your channel's Member settings or they can use the 'Forgot Password?' link on the log in page and follow the steps outlined there.
